چکیده

Results of fitness estimates for the Lap locus in Drosophila melanogaster revealed that under crowded media conditions gene frequency equilibrium was maintained by frequency-dependent selection. Evidence was obtained that indicated that mating and egg-to-adult viability were frequency dependent.

Concentration dependent effect of morphine, aspirin, capsaicin and chili pepper hydro alcoholic extract on thermal and chemical pain model in fruit fly (Drosophila melanogaster)

Introduction: Pain research using animal models is related to ethical concerns, so invertebrates and insects have been recommended by researchers. In the present study, the nociceptive and antinociceptive effects of capsaicin, aspirin, morphine and chili extract were examined using fruit fly (Drosophila melanogaster) as an alternative for rodent pain model. Methods: Stage 3 of larvae and ad...

Toxicological Evaluation of a New Lepidopteran Insecticide, Flubendiamide, in Non-Target Drosophila melanogaster Meigen (Diptera: Drosophilidae)

Background: Flubendiamide, comparatively a new pesticide designed to eradicate lepidopteran insect pests is known to have low risk to birds, mammals, fish, algae, honey bees, non-target arthropods, earthworms, soil macro- and micro-organisms, non-target plants as well as sewage treatment organisms; however, the risk assessment for aquatic invertebrates from metabolite could not be finalized wit...

Prevalence of negative frequency-dependent selection, revealed by incomplete selective sweeps in African populations of Drosophila melanogaster

Positive selection on a new beneficial mutation generates a characteristic pattern of DNA sequence polymorphism when it reaches an intermediate allele frequency. On genome sequences of African Drosophila melanogaster, we detected such signatures of selection at 37 candidate loci and identified "sweeping haplotypes (SHs)" that are increasing or have increased rapidly in frequency due to hitchhik...

The influence of sexual and larval selection on the maintenance of polymorphism at the sepia locus in Drosophila melanogaster.

Sexual selection is measured between two strains of Drosophila melanogaster: a wild strain and a strain mutant at the sepia locus. Frequency-dependent male mating was found to successful, whereas the female genotype exerted no influence. The rarer the male genotype becomes, the greater is its mating success. A selection model is build for this behavior characteristic in which selection operates...

Apparent selection of enzyme alleles in laboratory populations of Drosophila.

Twelve laboratory populations of recently collected Drosophila willistoni were begun with different frequencies of alleles at three enzyme loci, six populations at 25 degrees and six at 19 degrees . Periodic sampling of the populations allowed monitoring of the frequency changes in allozymes over time.-At Lap-5 (a locus coding for leucine amino peptidase), three alleles converged to the same fr...
